Welcome! My name is Sarah K Jackson, and I’m a textile artist based in York with a passion for vintage and recycled fabrics: particularly those with a story to tell. It doesn’t have to be spectacular, or valuable, it might have been lost in a cupboard or tossed in the bin. But every scrap of material means something to somebody. You just have to listen to its yarn... Winifred Taylor specialises in transforming old, discarded or out-grown items into original works of textile art. Having completed a City and Guild’s course in creative techniques in 2013, I founded Winifred Taylor because I wanted to celebrate my grandma, who first taught me to sew. I use items belonging to her to inspire me to create textile art, such as the one shown here. This piece is based on a photo of Winifred on the sand-dunes near Blackpool in the 1920s. The text I have incorporated is from a poem written to Winifred on her wedding day by her aunt. As well as the ‘Keepsake Art’ work mentioned above, I also design and stitch pictures and gifts either through exhibitions with the groups I belong to, or through the various stalls I have on a regular basis. I love meeting new people and so I both give talks and deliver workshops in York and across the north of England: have a look at my other pages to get an idea of what I offer. Maybe, like me, you simply can’t resist vintage fabric. You love everything from industrial design to hand-stitched samplers. You hoard antique lace from flea-markets and coverlets picked up at car-boot sales. Your cupboards and, quite possibly, your nearest and dearest cannot take any more. Get in touch – I understand and share your addiction. Help is at hand…. Follow this link to read my Summer 2020 Newsletter
